The Ultimate Copenhagen Long Weekender: Nordic Culture, Rooftop Views & 4* Luxury.

After meeting at the airport we will catch our flight to Copenhagen where we will arrive at 14.20. You are welcome to take a flight from whichever UK airport suits you best and can meet the group at the hotel.

We will take our private transfer to our hotel the gorgeous 4* Tivoli hotel

Situated by the Copenhagen Canal, our  hotel is 10 minutes’ walk from Copenhagen Central Station. It provides free WiFi, 3 popular restaurants onsite, along with an indoor pool  and sauna and a  large fitness centre. There are also 2 sky bars known for their impressive, panoramic views.

Tivoli Hotel’s air-conditioned rooms include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and tea/coffee facilities, as well as a modern bathroom. 

Tivoli Gardens, Town Hall Square, the Meatpacking District and a variety of other city attractions are within walking distance. 

The Travel Buddies trips work on the basis that as long as you are having a good time then that is what matters, if you don’t feel like coming on one of the excursions or joining the rest of the group for dinner one evening then that is absolutely fine. This is an adventure for everyone and there is nothing worse than having to go somewhere/do something that you don’t really fancy!

Feel free to do as much or as little research as you like, some members will know what they would like to visit as soon as they book the trip, Others will just turn up at the airport and have not researched at all. Either is absolutely fine. We all have different ideas as to what constitutes a great time away!

Let’s ease into Copenhagen gently…..

After some time to check in and check out the hotel facilities we will head out to enjoy dinner locally at a traditional restaurant. 

A visit to the Tivoli Gardens  post dinner is a must. It is a dear tradition amongst Copenhageners and without doubt the city’s number one Christmas market with Christmas gifts, decorations, snacks, cookies, sweets and hot drinks.

The historic gardens will be full of decorated wooden houses, snow-covered trees, Santa’s reindeer, Christmas lights, and the true Nordic Christmas atmosphere. (entrance fee is around £15)

This morning we will explore the highlights of Copenhagen on a guided walking tour with 14 stops including one of the oldest (most colourful) districts dating back to the 16th Century and the Ameliamborg and Christiansborg palace to name a few.

Next up is a boat trip on Nyhavn canal. 

On the charming waterfront. we’ll find jazz bars, food stalls and rows of rainbow-coloured terraces. This colourful area has a colourful history. Constructed by Swedish prisoners of war in the 17th Century, the port was infamous for drunkenness, debauchery and prostitution. Hans Christian Andersen grew up here. Snap a selfie in front of the quaint lemon-yellow house where Denmark’s national hero penned his first ever fairy tale. 

Our 1 hour canal cruise along the main harbour and adjoining canals will allow us to see the famed iconic architecture, ancient castles and beautiful churches from the water. 

Dinner will be booked at a traditional restaurant local to the hotel.

This morning we explore the tastes of Copenhagen on a top rated foodie tour. We start the tour at the cutest grocery store in town and get ready for the stickiest  Cinnamon bun ever…

Try the classic salt & pepper bun with butter and cheese and Smörrebröd, a local delicacy you can not miss!

Try some of the yummiest smoked salmon, bite into a thick fish cake with curry sauce as well a danish cheese tasting and more delicious things,

All of this surrounded by beautiful scenery and a visit to a market.

Free afternoon to explore or relax at the hotel

Now, no trip to Copenhagen is complete without visiting the iconic little Mermaid Statue.

At Langelinie Pier we  will find one of Copenhagen’s most famous tourist attractions: The sculpture of The Little Mermaid. 23 August 2013 she turned 100 years old. Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen.

She is made of bronze and granite and was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land. Every morning and evening she swims to the surface from the bottom of the sea and, perched on her rock in the water, she stares longingly towards the shore hoping to catch a glimpse of her beloved prince.

Today we can check out and store our luggage at the hotel before having the rest of the day to do some sightseeing, Souvenir shopping or relax before taking our private transfer to the airport in the afternoon  for our flight home.
