The Travel Buddies trips work on the basis that as long as you are having a good time then that is what matters, if you don’t feel like coming on one of the excursions or joining the rest of the group for dinner one evening then that is absolutely fine. This is an adventure for everyone and there is nothing worse than having to go somewhere/do something that you don’t really fancy!
Feel free to do as much or as little research as you like, some members will know what they would like to visit as soon as they book the trip, Others will just turn up at the airport and have not researched at all. Either is absolutely fine. We all have different ideas as to what constitutes a great time away!
Check in to the hotel and get some rest.
We start today by following our taste buds into Downtown Nassau for an authentic cultural and culinary experience. Discover the rich flavors and history of the Bahamas as we walk the vibrant streets, guided by a local expert who will share their love for the cuisine and the island.
Indulge in uniquely Bahamian dishes like conch fritters and guava duff and learn about the heritage and culture of The Bahamas with each bite.
Explore iconic landmarks like Government House and Parliament Square and hear the stories behind the landmarks that shaped the heart of Nassau.
This afternoon is to do as we please. Whether we choose to head back to the hotel to relax by the gorgeous pools or on the private beach, hit those iconic Bahamian clear blue waters using the complimentary kayaks and paddle boards, or peruse the town further… there’s lots of choices.
Ardastra Gardens
In the heart of Nassau, more than four acres of lush tropical gardens are inhabited by a variety of animal species, including the national bird of the Bahamas, the Caribbean flamingo. It is just a 16 minute walk from our hotel. Admission ticket is $35.

All about the Pirates. Ahhhaaaarrrrrr.
New Providence Island and its port of Nassau sat directly along major shipping and trade lanes, with shallow waters and hundreds of secluded cays offering ideal hiding spots . After joint Franco-Spanish fleets attacked and burned Nassau in 1703 and 1706, official British colonial governance collapsed, leaving the town abandoned.
From roughly 1706 to 1718, an estimated 1,000 outlaws and former privateers occupied the island, outnumbering local residents ten to one. They formed a cooperative, self-governing community with elected captains and shared rules.
The most infamous pirate of all time, Blackbeard, has been quoted as saying, “when a pirate slept he did not dream that he had died and gone to heaven, but instead that he had returned to New Providence”.
Today we will relive the moments when the pirates ruled with visits to both , the Pirate museum of Nassau and Fort Fincastle.
