Its aim is to challenge the way we experience art by featuring artists and their works from unusual perspectives.
Gothenburg’s Botanical Garden. Botaniska is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe. Covering an impressive 175 hectares, they were founded by explorer and botanist Carl Skottsbery almost 100 years ago. Today, the gardens are home to over 16,000 plant species, all displayed in beautiful garden spaces uniting expertise and beauty.
After breakfast this morning we will all start the day by heading to the hop on/off bus tour and go from there depending on what everyone wants to do. Take a look here to see the full list of activities included in the pass.
This morning we will walk to the ferry terminal to join a boat tour. This four-hour cruise will take us through Gothenburg’s main waterways, from its Göta River, to the Björkö Fjord, out through the harbour and into the western coastline. Along the way, we’ll get to experience Sweden’s rich and varied landscape and take in the incredible views.
The boat tour will start in the popular Lilla Bommen, where we’ll also find the Opera House, Viking barque, and other boat tours to Älvsborg Fortress. From here we’ll board the M/S Carl Michael Bellman for a fun-filled four-hour cruise around the ancient island of Hisingen, Sweden’s fifth-largest island and whose first settlements date back to 9000 BC.
The boat tour will take us along the winding waterways of Gothenburg’s Göta River, through the Björkö Fjord, bustling harbour, and out into the coast. Here we’ll be able to experience Gothenburg’s stunning scenery from its verdant meadows, rocky cliffs, farmlands and parklands, and much more. Along the way we’ll also pass some of Gothenburg’s most iconic sites and landmarks, too. If the weather is really warm, there’s a sundeck where we can sit out and take in the views while making the most of the fine Swedish summer!
Please note that the tour cannot be booked in advance as it is included in our pass but we will get to the meeting point in good time to try to ensure that we can go on the first available boat of the day, if not we may need to split into 2 smaller groups or book a slot for a little later in the day.
Free Afternoon.
Dinner locally.
Fish and shellfish is a real speciality here . Shrimp sandwiches, newly caught fish in classic and modern dishes, clams and oysters – the selection is huge! If seafood is not your thing, don’t worry there are plenty of other options in this “foodie” city!
The iconic seafood market hall Feskekörka is a must for fish and seafood lovers. Here you are greeted by a market hall with delicacies from the sea, several different fish counters and brand new restaurants and bars with national and international guest performances in the kitchens. There are also events, food and drink experiences, a stage with entertainment and one of Gothenburg’s largest outdoor seating facing Vallgraven.
This morning we will take public transport ( a bus and a boat total time around 1 hour 10 minutes ) to Styrso.
Styrsö is located in the middle of the southern archipelago and around 1400 people inhabit the island. Here you can find a post office, shops, cafés, guesthouses and restaurants. There are plenty of places to swim, from sandy beaches, to piers and flat cliffs.
From Stora Rös, the island’s highest point, you can enjoy a great view over the entire archipelago.
There are four small villages with differing characters. Gothenburg high society discovered Styrsö in the late 19th century and turned Bratten into a little seaside resort.
